Golden card

How to get

While offering no functional difference, golden cards are far harder to obtain than their non-golden versions. Those that can be crafted are far more expensive to craft, and far more rewarding to disenchant. The means of obtaining a golden card depends on the card set The card set interface Card sets are categories into which collectible cards are divided, reflecting how they can be obtained, and determining whether they are eligible for use in Standard format. Generated golden cards

Golden cards create golden cards. This means that new cards or minions created by a golden card during a game will automatically be the golden version. This includes summon For information on summoning minions, see Minion#Summoning. Summon is an ability which summons one or more minions. Distinct from regular summoning, a minion generated by the summon ability does not consume or come from an , generate Generate effects are abilities which create new cards and place them into a player s hand, or more rarely shuffle them into the player s deck. These means are the only way to encounter golden versions of uncollectible Uncollectible cards are cards which although available in-game cannot be collected by players. While these cards are often playable and obtainable by players in the course of a match, they cannot be added to players cards. Be that as it may, existing cards which are merely moved or put into play by golden cards will not be changed into their golden versions.

As a rule, if any card involved in the generation of another card is golden, the resulting card will also be golden. For example a golden Polymorph Polymorph Set: Basic Type: Spell Class: Mage Cost: 4 Abilities: Transform Tags: Beast-generating Transform a minion into a 1/1 Sheep. There was going to be a pun in this flavor text, but it just came out hearthstone cast upon a regular Goldshire Footman Goldshire Footman Set: Basic Type: Minion Cost: 1 Attack: 1 Health: 2 Abilities: Taunt TauntIf 1/2 minions are all that is defending Goldshire, you would think it would have been overrun years ago.See this card hearthstone will create a golden Sheep Sheep Set: Basic Type: Minion Subtype: Beast Class: Mage Cost: 1 Attack: 1 Health: 1 See this card on Hearthpwn data page] For the minion created by Kazakus Potion, see Sheep (Mean Streets of Gadgetzan) hearthstone ; as will a regular Polymorph cast upon a golden Goldshire Footman, or a golden Polymorph cast upon a golden Goldshire Footman. Effects which create cards through interaction with characters obey the same rules; Light of the Naaru Light of the Naaru Set: Goblins vs Gnomes Type: Spell Class: Priest Rarity: Rare Cost: 1 Abilities: Restore Health, Summon Tags: Damaged-related Restore 3 Health. In Hearthstone, this concept is expressed in three interrelated but distinct ways: Heroes are gameplay characters representing players or bosses within a match. hearthstone .

The above rules apply for all generation of new cards, including both uncollectible Uncollectible cards are cards which although available in-game cannot be collected by players. While these cards are often playable and obtainable by players in the course of a match, they cannot be added to players cards such as Imp Master Imp Master Set: Classic Type: Minion Rarity: Rare Cost: 3 Attack: 1 Health: 5 Abilities: Deal damage, Summon Tags: Demon-generating, Triggered effect At the end of your turn, deal 1 damage to this minion and hearthstone `s Imps Imp Set: Classic Type: Minion Subtype: Demon Cost: 1 Attack: 1 Health: 1 See this card on Hearthpwn data page] For the identically-named Imps, see Imp (Imp-losion) and Imp (Imp Gang Boss). For other Imps, hearthstone , and normally collectible Collectible cards are cards which are available for players to collect and use in their decks. The majority of all playable cards are collectible cards. Players can view their collectible card collection through the collection cards such as Archmage Antonidas Archmage Antonidas Set: Classic Type: Minion Class: Mage Rarity: Legendary Cost: 7 Attack: 5 Health: 7 Abilities: Generate Tags: Spell-generating, Spell-related, Triggered effect Whenever you cast a spell, put a Fireball spell into your hand.Antonidas hearthstone ` Fireballs. Be that as it may, as stated above, existing cards which are merely moved or put into play from the player`s deck by golden cards, such as by put into battlefield, put into hand or card draw effects, will not be changed into their golden versions.

Hero Powers which generate cards work the same way. For instance, a golden Reinforce will generate golden Silver Hand Recruits. Be that as it may, effects which replace Hero Powers may or may not produce golden versions (see below).

While these rules are largely consistent, there are a few exceptions, and these are listed in the appropriate sections below. Note that bugs may also cause inconsistent behaviour in some cases.

Types

The main types of uncollectible card generation are broken down below, along with a few examples.

Card art

While the underlying art for each card is created by a range of artists, the creation of golden card images requires additional work, transforming each static 2D image into a recoloured, animated, moving display. Hearthstone`s golden card art is created by Becca Abel, Kyle Harrison, John Zwicker and Jon Briggs.

Trivia

  • Senior Game Designer Ben Brode has stated that he intentionally "tried to make the least playable golden basics the easiest to get," and that he "loves" how rare golden Sen`jin Shieldmasta is, requiring the player to reach levels 59 and 60 with a rogue.
  • The introductory sections to trailers such as those for Goblins vs Gnomes and Curse of Naxxramas feature placeholder art for golden card frames. Resembling a purple version of the mage card frame, this art was used prior to the development of the golden card frames, but has continued to be used in trailers.

Game mechanics

The underlying rule set of Hearthstone is pretty simple: You start with a hero, the hero`s hero power and three (regular) cards. A coin is tossed to determine which one of the players get to start and the player that goes second, gets an extra card, namely The Coin, in order to compensate for the disadvantage of going second. At the beginning of each turn, the player draws one card and can play as many cards as the player likes, as long as the player has enough mana. Cards cost mana to play and every player starts with one mana, while adding one additional mana each turn to a total of ten mana, which refills after each turn. The maximum amount of cards in the player`s hand is ten and the maximum amount of minions is seven for each player. The one whose hero`s Health reaches zero first, has lost the game. The various cards add or detract from the options each player has at the outset. Cards can, for instance, allow the player to draw extra cards or inhibit the other player in specific ways.

Card categories

Cards have several categories that they fall into:

  • Class: Certain cards can only be used by a certain class, in which case they`re class-specific and fall into the category corresponding to their class. Neutral cards can be used by any class.
  • Type: There are several types of cards:
    • Hero: Heroes are represented by cards and they, in turn, represent the class you wish to play.
    • Hero Power: Hero powers are unique powers for every hero. They cost 2 Mana and refresh after each turn.
    • Minions: These are creatures that go on the play board.
    • Spells: These are cards that have a one-time effect which is immediately resolved upon the playing of the card.
    • Secret: These are specific type of spell cards that are played, but which are not resolved until a special event happens. The effect of the card is hidden to the opposing player until it triggers, although the opponent will know that there is a secret in play.
    • Weapon: These are cards that allow the hero to gain Attack. They have durability, which is reduced by one each time the hero attacks. A weapon is destroyed once its durability reaches zero.
  • Subtype: Subtypes are Minion categories that generally have synergies within its type (example Murloc Tidecaller). Currently, there are seven subtypes (Beast, Dragon, Demon, Mech, Murloc, Pirate and Totem), but more could be added in future expansions.
  • Rarity: Rarity determines the crafting cost, disenchant value and is used in determining the probability of cards of a certain value appearing in Card Packs. Only in-game mechanical effect of rarity is that Legendary cards are limited to one copy per deck instead of the normal two copies.
  • Card Set: Card Sets are categories for the type of use or method of acquisition of a card. Basic and Expert cards can be obtained through unlocking or opening card sets, while Reward and Promo cards have to be obtained through fulfilling special conditions, in-game or out-of-game, respectively. For the sake of clarity, the community has chosen to categorise certain unobtainable cards in their own categories, such as Mission, Cheat or Debug, although Hearthstone itself remains ambiguous to the existence of these categories.

Rarity vs Card Set

The categories for Rarity and Card Set can easily be confused because all Free cards are Basic and because the player will most likely earn his or her first Common card before having unlocked all the Free cards. The following tables might help to clear some of the confusion:

Rarity vs Card Sets

Rarity can be found in sets
Free Basic, Mission
Common Classic
Rare Classic
Epic Classic, Reward
Legendary Classic, Reward, Promo

Card Sets vs Rarity

Card Set consists of cards of rarity

Golden cards

Cards also have a golden version. However, in terms of gameplay, the golden version are identical to their non-golden counterparts and the only difference is the way they look: Golden cards are golden and have fancier animations. Golden versions can be crafted (and disenchanted) for higher amounts of Arcane Dust than the normal version and the golden versions of the Class-specific Free cards can be unlocked by leveling the hero beyond level 10.
